"In His Words"
Pastor Gary Miller
Friends,
We are three weeks into the season of Lent. I am not an expert on the subject, nor has it been a big part of my journey with Jesus Christ. The season of Lent begins forty days prior to Easter. Tradition has been that a Christian give something up for the forty day period; symbolizing to the Lord a desire to go deeper and walk closer with Him. People may give up soda, chocolate, television, or maybe not eating out.
Have you ever asked the question “what if”? That question can cover a wide variety of topics, but this is what I have been thinking about. What if, for the season of Lent, all Christians would give up “self”? What if, for the season of Lent, Christians everywhere put “self” out to the street for the garbage company to haul away?
What if we really took to heart Matthew 28:19-20: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (TNIV) What if “self” was gone; would the world change?
Keep on keeping on,
Pastor Gary
